American Medical Women's Association

The American Medical Women's Association is the only national organization of women physicians and medical students.  Founded in 1915, the group is hosting it's 85th annual meeting this week in Colorado.  Dr. Omega Silva of Washington DC will be sworn in tomorrow as its next president.  We asked Dr. Silva, an endocrinologist, what issues she will champion in the coming year.

"The American Medical Women's Association believes that the lack of universal health care for all Americans is the most pressing issue for our country today".

When asked about her organizations goals for the coming year, Dr. Silva added:

"The American Medical Women's Associations goals for the year, at least some of them, are cardiovascular disease education for women and to let them know that cholesterol must be controlled.  And the other one would be tobacco, because girls are smoking to a much greater extent than little boys and smoking at a much earlier age."
