Yellow Vaginal Discharge

Q: Over the past eight months I've noticed a creamy, yellow vaginal discharge. I don't really know how to bring it up with my doctor. It has a bad odor and it's embarrassing. What if it's serious? Should I be worried?

Dr. Donnica: The only way to resolve this is to tell your doctor and get an examination! I know it's embarrassing, but two minutes of embarrassment has got to be a lot better than eight months of physical discomfort! Besides, it's unlikely that you're going to have something your doctor hasn't seen or heard of before. Most likely your condition is an easily treated vaginal infection, such as gardnella or bacterial vaginosis. This kind of infection is sexually transmissible, so your partner should be treated as well if this is the diagnosis.
