Running Out of Treatments for PMDD

Q: This PMDD is driving me crazy. The Prozac I am taking is not working anymore. It is very hard for me to control my anger and outbursts. Last week, I had to leave work early because I wasn't feeling good -- tired, short fuse, and hostile inside of myself. Not good when you work in the Emergency Room!

Since taking the Prozac, my energy level has decreased. I used to be a competitive triathlete. I have the desire to workout, but not the drive. I am tired of being tired. I want my old self back. But I want to curb the PMDD. Hopefully I can get a different type of medication. I maxed out on Zoloft, tried Wellbutrin (increased my heart rate too much) and Prozac.

Do you now of any support groups for PMDD?

Thanks for letting me go on and on.

--D.A.

Dr. Donnica: Please consult your psychiatrist and discuss the feelings and issues you related to me. There are other medications (e.g. Paxil CR) and approaches that you can try; different regimens work differently for different women. I agree that a PMDD support group might be very helpful. You can try the one listed at http://groups.msn.com/PMSandPMDD/pmspmdd1.msnw.
