Perimenopause at 31
Q: I am a 31-year-old whose mother began menopause at the age of 32. I do not
have any medical coverage and seek all of my GYN care from Planned Parenthood.
I had my period two weeks ago and am having it again. My mood swings are so
crazy I thought I was going insane. I am confused as to what is going on with
my body and how it will affect my future health and mental status! How do I
find a physician that works with young menopausal women? Where do I start on
my health care?
Confused! Lucinda
Dr. Donnica: The good news is that Planned Parenthood CAN help you!
It sounds like you are in perimenopause. One excellent treatment for your
menstrual irregularities and your mood swings is low dose birth control pills,
assuming that you have no contraindications. I recommend that you make
an appointment to speak with a Planned Parenthood physician about this.
