Educating Ourselves About Health Issues

Q: How can women best educate themselves about their own health? How has the Internet helped or hurt this process?

Dr. Donnica:
The best way for women to educate themselves about their health is to read, read, READ (credible sources)! The Internet makes information easily available and accessible.  DrDonnica.com is a great place to start. Unfortunately, the Internet has also been used to spread misinformation. Knowledge without an individual context can also be dangerous or scary. Women should take the information they've gained from reading and address any specific questions they have about how it applies to them specifically to their own healthcare providers.  Ideally, women should develop a long-term relationship with a primary care provider they trust and who they see at least annually.
