What's Good About Morning Sickness?
(continued)
Prevention and Treatment of Morning Sickness: Can morning sickness be prevented?
There is no cure for morning sickness other than delivery; similarly, there
is no effective treatment. There are many strategies for effective management,
however. Most suggestions involve avoiding triggers and making small but effective
dietary changes. The most important advice is to figure out what works for
you and just do it.
The mainstay of morning sickness management is maintaining adequate fluid and
nutrition intake along with the use of anti-nausea medications if needed. Several
medications may be given safely, but it is important for a pregnant woman to
check with her physician before taking any medications.
Well-ventilated rooms, which prevent accumulation of cooking
odors or cigarette smoke, may help prevent morning sickness. Avoid smoking or
being around others who are smoking. Avoid other strong odors such as those
in beauty salons, chemicals, etc.
